The Yorktown High School Debate & Speech Team is one of the most prominent Debate & Speech programs in the Commonwealth of Virginia and the Washington Metropolitan Area. The team has a long history and a tradition of excellence spanning over more than 50 years. It has won various National, State, Regional, and District titles. In addition, the team had received recognition from the Virginia General Assembly (HJ5057) and Arlington County.

In the past decade, students have qualified to compete in national tournaments hosted by the National Forensic League and the National Catholic Forensic League; Regional and State tournaments hosted by the Virginia High School League  (VHSL). Students have experienced consistent success at other major debate tournaments in the country as well.

The team currently competes in the Washington-Arlington Catholic Forensic League (WACFL), a division of the National Catholic Forensic League and in Conference 6 in the 6A North Region in the Virginia High School Leage (VHSL). It is the only team in Arlington Public Schools system to capture three consecutive state titles (VHSL AAA Debate 2006-2008) in recent years.

In 2012, the team was recognized as part of the Top 10% Chapters from the National Forensic League, it was further accepted into the NFL's prestigious 100 Club.
